A few weeks before we moved to GGA, Trey and I spent a very special few days with our closest friends and church community in Lubbock. On Sunday, we did what we love most–ate great food together, spent quality time with one another, and worshiped as a family. What a sweet sweet time. It was holy and just blessed.

Our friends Brent and Amanda, along with awesome little Anthony, served overseas last year and have been such an encouragement to us. As part of worship, Brent led us in a litany meditating on the promise that God will never leave us nor forsake us. He spoke of specific situations we would face during this next year, and our community spoke “He will never leave you nor forsake you” over us. It was powerful and special.

God has continued to remind me of these words over and over and I wanted to share with you some reflections I have had over our time so far…

  • When you feel like a stranger in a strange land…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When you feel at home…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When sweet faces are laughing all around you…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When young eyes speak of unthinkable trauma…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • In times of separation …He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • In times of reunion…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • In organization…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • In chaos…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When you love is growing for one another daily…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When you respond in stress and not love…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When illness robs you of family, health, normalcy, life…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • In times of loss…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When innocence is lost…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When innocence perseveres…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When cultural differences seem insurmountable…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When shared humanity is all the commonality you need…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When a sweet hug and an “I missed you” greet you after school each day …He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When you realize the awesome weight of being Uncle Trey and Auntie Julie …He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When faced with your brokenness…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • In healing…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • In obedience…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • In resistant stubbornness…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • In sweet calls from home…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When you are asked if you are rich…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When the answer is yes, without the qualification we wish could accompany it…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When struggling with what being rich means when surrounding by so much poverty…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When suddenly all you want to do is listen to country music, and the only explanation is culture shock…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When you feel as though everything you do, small or large, will change lives…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When it all seems futile…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When surrounded by God’s incredible creation…He will never leave you nor forsake you.
  • When your actions deny that all are created in God’s image…He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Peace can only come from this promise, and although it doesn’t make things make “sense” it is the only sense there is sometimes. Know it is true for you too, dear friends. Whatever, whenever, whoever—the Lord is faithful and good.
